The upcoming tvN Saturday-Sunday drama Law and the City unveils script reading stills.
Law and the City is a story about the joys, sorrows, and growth of five associate lawyers — salaried attorneys working at a law firm — who work at law firms located in the Seocho Judicial Town.
The script, grounded in the real-life experiences of writer Lee Seung Hyun, a practicing lawyer, is brought to the screen with the stylish direction of director Park Seung Woo.
Adding to the anticipation, Lee Jong Suk, Mun Ka Young, Kang You Seok, Ryu Hye Young, and Im Sung Jae come together as the "Abeon-just" (a portmanteau of "Avengers" and "lawyers") to portray the camaraderie among the law professionals.
The stills capture the daily lives of Ahn Joo Hyung (Lee Jong Suk), the senior-most associate lawyer at Seocho Judicial Town, and Kang Hee Ji (Mun Ka Young), a junior at the bottom. The image of their office, brightly lit 24/7, offers a glimpse into the hectic lives of the associate lawyers.
At the script reading, Lee Jong Suk showcased the depth of his character's experience with a chic tone and composed demeanor. Effortlessly and swiftly responding to a barrage of questions from all sides, he further highlighted the sharp intelligence of his character, Ahn Joo Hyung.
Mun Ka Young brought out the passionate qualities of first-year associate lawyer Kang Hee Ji through her intense gaze. Throughout, she never took her eyes off her scene partners, effectively conveying Kang Hee Ji's warm yet resolute personality as a new lawyer.
Kang You Seok plays the chatterbox Cho Chang Won of the Seocho Judicial Town associate lawyers' meal group. The actor portrayed the character as unbothered by the indifferent attitudes of his meal buddies, freely expressing everything on his mind.
Ryu Hye Young plays Bae Moon Jung, the de facto leader of the Abeon-just meal crew. Rhythmically listing off a variety of menu options, she exuded the charisma of a true foodie expert, while her sly ability to smoothly navigate awkward situations added a sharp and captivating charm.
Im Sung Jae plays Ha Sang Gi — a good-natured individualist — who is stressed and busy. The actor's ability to shift vocal tones depending on whether he was at work or with friends added humor and relatability, capturing the divide between personal and professional life.
Law and the City is coming this July. Stay tuned!
