Park Bo Gum, Kim So Hyun, Lee Sang Yi, Heo Sung Tae, and Tae Won Seok ignite passion for justice in Good Boy.
Good Boy is an action comedy drama where medalists turned police officers, wearing police badges instead of medals around their necks, fight against injustice.
The production team has unveiled stills of the six main characters, giving a glimpse of their transformation from gold medalists to police officers.
Yun Dong Joo (Park Bo Gum) was a boxing champion who clenched gold and was hailed as the nation's hero. Riding on the wave of glory for being the world's number one, he becomes a police officer through special recruitment. Despite his athletic abilities, his police career is not smooth.
He is a rookie policeman demoted to a patrolman after having caused accidents one after another. Despite appearing like a simple character who relies on his fists and dashes around with a sunny disposition, Yun Dong Ju carries within him a fiery sense of justice and a deep, heartfelt compassion as powerful as his punches.
Ji Han Na (Kim So Hyun), who was hailed as a prodigy since middle school for dominating various shooting competitions, is sharp and firm when standing before a target. With eyes that pierce through the bullseye and an upright posture as she pulls the trigger, she is the embodiment of a "shooting genius."
Though she now walks a different path as a police officer, her strong desire to be out in the field is at odds with reality. She is used only for police PR campaigns thanks to her fame as an international competition star. And so, she grips her gun not in front of a criminal, but in front of a camera.
Kim Jong Hyeon (Lee Sang Yi) is a former fencing silver medalist turned police officer. Possessing both a sharp intellect and agile moves, he is the kind of cool and composed character who prioritizes reason and logic. In the stills, he is shown in fencing gear, sword in hand, fighting his match with meticulous calculation and intense focus. But now, dressed in officewear, he works in the internal affairs investigation division, prioritizing order and balance. Beneath his principled, composed exterior lies a quiet humanity, while behind his rational demeanor is a lingering sense of emptiness rooted in his past.
Go Man Sik (Heo Sung Tae) is a man of grit who threw himself on the wrestling mat to overpower opponents. His efforts won him a bronze medal. His sweat-drenched face and clenched teeth captured in the still reflect the determination and hard work he employed to excel in his sport.
Now, he's a seasoned detective who applies his wrestling endurance skills to survive the harsh realities of life. His rise to the rank of lieutenant is the result of over a decade of effort, skillfully navigating workplace politics with a business mindset to stay in his superiors' good graces.
Shin Jae Hong (Tae Won Seok), born tough and strong, used to hurl the discus, slicing through the sky, with the perfect blend of power and technique. But he left that glory behind to become a police officer to make a living for his family.
To secure time to study for promotions, he volunteers for a low-ranking post as a traffic safety assistant. While he is diligent and responsible, when it comes to crime scenes, he tends to avoid them with one excuse or another.
Thus, Yun Dong Joo (Park Bo Gum), Ji Han Na (Kim So Hyun), Kim Jong Hyeon (Lee Sangyi), Go Man Sik (Heo Sung Tae), and Shin Jae Hong (Tae Won Seok) come together as one team in the Special Violent Crimes Unit. Once athletes who proudly stood in the spotlight with medals around their necks, they now reignite their died-down passions and begin the real fight.
The production team stated, "These young people, once national athletes with dazzling pasts, become police officers for their reasons and deliver a refreshing uppercut against the world's injustices. As individuals who once excelled in different sports come together under the umbrella of the Special Violent Crimes Unit, a journey full of unexpected twists and growth will unfold colorfully."
They added, "Please look forward to how these characters — each brought to life by actors with their own unique colors — come together and find their rhythm as one team."
Good Boy will premiere on May 31. The K-drama will be streaming on Prime Video for global audiences.
