Queen Mantis tells the story of Jung Yi Shin (Go Hyun Jung), the Mantis, a serial killer locked up in prison. When someone starts imitating her crime style, she starts working with her detective son, Cha Su Yeol (Jang Dong Yoon), who has hated her his whole life, to catch the culprit.

Daily Dose of Sunshine actor Jang Dong Yoon plays Detective Cha Su Yeol, Jung Yi Shin's (Go Hyun Jung) son.

It is reported that the greatest motivation behind Jang Dong Yoon's decision to take part in the K-drama was trust in director  Byun Young Joo. "The biggest reason was that it was a project directed by director Byun Young Joo. It was not an easy project, but as a fan of the director, I had a clear belief."

When asked about his experience working with director Byun Young Joo, Jang said, "In a word, director Byun Young-ju can be described as an actor-optimizing director. She gives directions in a way that is easy for actors to understand, is very considerate, and communicates a great deal, so the vibe on set was amazing. She also spent a lot of time with us off-set."

He continued, "Particularly in scenes that required intensity, she demonstrated delicate yet powerful direction. With her outstanding direction of mise-en-scène, it goes without saying that her past works have been excellent, but viewers can look forward to the mise-en-scène of Queen Mantis."

He also expressed  his expectation and confidence in Queen Mantis, adding, "It is a well-made crime thriller drama where the director's skillful direction, the writer's tightly-woven story, and the actors' performances harmonize perfectly. It is intense and thrilling. You will be able to appreciate its many charms."

Queen Mantis is set to premiere on September 5. The K-drama will be streaming on Netflix.
