Kim Da Mi shares why she chose 'A Hundred Memories'

A Hundred Memories is a youth melodrama set in the 1980s, depicting the shining friendship of two friends — Ko Yeong Rye (Kim Da Mi) and Seo Jong Hui (Shin Ye Eun) — who, in a tough era, work as bus attendants to make a living.

Kim Da Mi takes on the role of Ko Yeong Rye, the exemplary conductor of Bus No.100. The actress describes her character as "cool," explaining, "She has a pure and clean soul, a warm heart, and is full of love. That's why she's willing to give everything for her friends and family. I find that aspect of her really cool."

Wearing a conductor's uniform instead of a school uniform, Yeong Rye boards the bus every day despite her chronic motion sickness to support her family. Yet she remains unshaken by her circumstances, giving generously without holding back — admirable. Having portrayed the many faces of youth in diverse projects, Kim Da Mi now raises anticipation for how she will bring to life the youth of Yeong Rye, and in what colors she will paint her.

Kim Da Mi also recalled the power of screenwriter Yang Hee Seung's uniquely vibrant script that she felt upon first coming across A Hundred Memories. As for her reason for choosing the project, she explained, "When I read the script, it felt as if each and every character was alive. I wanted to live in that world."

While she went through a period of doubt, wondering if she could express Yeong Rye's pure soul, she also expressed, "Considering Yeong Rye's purity, the more I read, the more I came to love her. So I made up my mind, telling myself, 'Let's give it a try.'"

She also shared that both the unfamiliar era of the 1980s and the occupation of a bus conductor especially compelled her. While working on this project, Kim Da Mi came to regard that time as a "romantic era." She explained, "It seemed like a period where there was more freedom than now, yet also less in certain ways. But when it came to love, everyone was passionate and full of dreams." That is why, she said, "Just experiencing that era, in itself, was something I truly appreciated."

She went on to reveal her candid thoughts, adding, "By indirectly experiencing this profession, I realized what an incredibly difficult job it must have been. I came to deeply respect the bus conductors of those times."

Thus, Kim Da Mi pointed out that she devoted herself to "pouring my heart and soul into amplifying the honest emotions I felt through Yeong Rye, and the sensibility unique to that era."

A Hundred Memories will premiere on September 13. News about the K-drama's global OTT is yet to come.
