Kim Jun Han shares why he chose 'Mad Concrete Dreams'

Kim Jun Han has shared his thoughts on Mad Concrete Dreams.

Mad Concrete Dreams is a thriller that tells the story of a struggling building owner, Ki Su Jong (Ha Jung Woo), drowning in debt, who gets involved in a fake kidnapping plot to protect his family and building, which are more precious to him than his own life. 

In the K-drama, Kim Jun Han plays Min Hwal Seong, a close friend of Ki Su Jong (Ha Jung Woo). Min Hwal Seong is a man who, with his looks and smooth way with words, succeeds in marrying Jeon Yi Kyung (Krystal Jung), the daughter of a wealthy family, only to end up as a live-in son-in-law. Trying to win recognition from his wife and mother-in-law, he scrapes together money and stirs up trouble, ultimately finding himself sinking into an increasingly uncontrollable situation.

Speaking about the series, Kim said, "I wanted to do it because the character leaves room to be interpreted in many different ways."

"Min Hwal Seong lives by distinct standards in many ways. The choices that Hwal Seong felt were only right for himself came across as surprising and intriguing from a viewer's perspective. In fact, I actually enjoyed playing him as he says and does things that go beyond expectations."

He then explained why he decided to join the project: "Perhaps because the script was written by a writer who used to be a novelist, it was full of fresh and interesting elements. The way the events unfolded and the characters' choices moved in directions I couldn't anticipate. And with the chance to work with director Yim Pil Sung and act alongside such great senior and junior actors, there was no reason not to choose it."

Talking about Ha Jung Woo, with whom he shares dynamics as his close friend in the drama, he says, "For many years, he's been a senior I've admired both as a junior actor and as an audience, so I was really excited to finally meet him this time. Watching him carry the weight of being the lead on set and make the work with strong leadership taught me a lot."

In the drama, Min Hwal Seong's proposal to Ki Su Jong — who is on the verge of losing his building — is set to send major shockwaves through both of their lives. Kim Jun Han described their relationship by saying, "To Min Hwal Seong, Ki Su Jong is a friend he's come to take completely for granted."

Mad Concrete Dreams will premiere on March 14. The K-drama will be streaming on Rakuten Viki.
