Oh Jung Se calls his 'Good Boy' character as 'the most grotesque monster with the most ordinary face

Oh Jung Se teases a never-seen-before character transformation in Good Boy.

Good Boy is an action comedy drama where medalists turned police officers, wearing police badges instead of medals around their necks, fight against injustice. 

In the K-drama, Oh Jung Se will play a powerful villain. Known for seamlessly blending in any role while giving it his own unique color, Oh comes to portray Min Ju Young, a customs officer who secretly controls Inseong City.

Oh Jung Se described Min Ju Young: "He's not just a monster in a drama — he's [the kind of person who resembles those who] existed before, still exists among us today, and will continue to live and breathe around us in the future. A real-life monster with an ordinary face."

Talking about how he approached Min Ju Young, he said, "Rather than declaring 'I'm the bad guy' outright,  I wanted to develop the character [in a way that it feels] like peeling an onion — layer by layer — so that viewers keep wondering, 'What kind of villain is he?' and 'How far can he go?'"

He continued, "I wanted to express the most extreme transformation through the subtlest of changes. My aim was to reveal the essence of Min Ju Young — the most grotesque monster with the most ordinary face."

The actor also approached even the character's appearance with meticulous care. Though Min Ju Young may look neat and unassuming, he wears the most expensive clothes.

In particular, Oh Jung Se highlighted Min Ju Young's line, "I don't quite remember," and said, "I remember seeing adults lying on TV when I was young. Monsters who commit crimes while hiding behind power and capital still exist among us. We will continue to live alongside such monsters in the future, and we must remember them, hold them accountable, and keep them in check."

The character who stands in stark contrast to Min Ju Young is Yoon Dong Ju (Park Bo Gum). The clash between Yoon Dong Ju, a passionate young man driven by a strong sense of justice, and Min Ju Young, who commits evil unflinchingly, is expected to heighten the drama's tension to its peak. 

Oh Jung Se explained, "Min Ju Young may seem like a dry person who goes through life with ease, but his violence surfaces from time to time. I wanted to provoke Yoon Dong Ju even more, so I tried to express his violence as intensely as possible within the limits of what could be shown in the drama."

Speaking about his chemistry with Park Bo Gum, Oh Jung Se said, "What can I say! I just wanted to get caught by him — quickly, thrillingly, and with great satisfaction." "He's a fellow actor from whom I could learn a lot."

Good Boy will premiere on May 31. The K-drama will be streaming on Prime Video for global audiences.
