Veteran actor Jeon Sung Hwan has passed away.

On September 1, the Korean Theater Association confirmed that actor Jeon Sung Hwan had passed away on August 31. The actor was 85. 

The wake for the deceased will be held at Room 303 of the On General Hospital Funeral Hall in Busan. The funeral procession is scheduled to depart at 9 a.m. on September 3. The funeral will be conducted as a Korean theater director's farewell.

Jeon Sung Hwan was born in North Gando in 1940 and settled in Busan during the January 4 Retreat in 1951. In 1963, he joined the theater industry with his brother Jeon Seung Hwan, who founded the theater company Avant Stage.

In 2003, Jeon Sung Hwan officially joined the entertainment industry and appeared in the film Sword in the Moon with Choi Min Soo, Jo Jae Hyun, Kim Bo Kyung, Lee Jong Soo, Yoo Yeon Soo, and Ki Joo Bong

He also got the chance to attend the Cannes Film Festival through the film The Bow with Han Yeo Reum, Seo Ji Suk, Jeon Gook Hwan, Kim Ik Tae, and Jang Dae Sung

He led Busan's theater community, becoming the chairman of the Busan Branch of the Korean Theater Association, a senior director of the Busan City Theater Company, and chairman of the company's artistic directors. He also worked as a producer at MBC in Busan.

Throughout his career, he received numerous awards, including the inaugural Lee Hae-rang Theater Award in 2001, making him the first local theater artist to be honored with the prize. His other awards include the Busan Culture Award, the Korean Theater Arts Award, the Nurwon Cultural Foundation Local Culture Award, and the Korea Arts Association Arts and Culture Award.

Jeon Sung Hwan was last seen in the 2020 K-drama Secret Royal Inspector. He worked alongside Infinite's L, Hello Venus' Kwon Na Ra, Lee Yi Kyung, Lee Tae Hwan, Jo Soo Min, and Ahn Nae Sang

He is best known for being part of the works Best ChickenTree with Deep RootsNew Tales of GisaengBread, Love and DreamsEast of Eden, and more.
