Song Hye Kyo ends 14-year collaboration with agency
On June 26, the production team of tvN's upcoming Saturday-Sunday drama Spooky in Love unveiled new stills of Yang Se Jong.
Spooky in Love is an occult rom-com that follows hotel heiress Cheon Yeo Ri (Park Eun Bin), who can see ghosts, and passionate prosecutor Ma Kang Wook (Yang Se Jong) as they team up to solve cases.
In the drama, Yang Se Jong plays Ma Kang Wook, a righteous prosecutor with a strong sense of justice but who also fears ghosts more than anything else in the world. After he accidentally ends up holding hands with Cheon Yeo Ri (Park Eun Bin), he unexpectedly gains the ability to see ghosts.
Explaining why he chose the project, Yang Se Jong said, "I found it interesting to see how the story of Cheon Yeo Ri and Ma Kang Wook changes, as well as how each of them overcomes their respective problems."
He continued, "There comes a point when Ma Kang Wook's perspective on ghosts changes. I was drawn to his sense of justice and how human he was in that moment."
Discussing how he approached playing a character who can see ghosts, Yang Se Jong said, "There were a lot of scenes where [my character] encountered ghosts, so I often spent time using my imagination." He added, "On set, I tried to stay true to the emotions I felt in the moment."
Asked what viewers should pay attention to in Spooky in Love, Yang Se Jong highlighted the evolving relationship between Cheon Yeo Ri and Ma Kang Wook, the ghosts' role in driving the story, and the theme of fateful relationships.
"I hope you'll also keep an eye on how the relationship between Cheon Yeo Ri and Ma Kang Wook changes, as well as what kinds of incidents and situations unfold due to the appearance of the ghosts." He added, "The drama also mentions 'a fated relationship that should never have happened.' I hope viewers will think along with us about whether such a relationship really exists."
Spooky in Love premieres on July 18. The K-drama is reported to stream on Netflix.
