Go Hyun Jung reveals why she chose 'Queen Mantis' without a second thought

Queen Mantis tells the story of Jung Yi Shin (Go Hyun Jung), the Mantis, a serial killer locked up in prison. When someone starts imitating her crime style, she starts working with her detective son, Cha Su Yeol (Jang Dong Yoon), who has hated her his whole life, to catch the culprit.

When asked about her reason for deciding to be cast in Queen Mantis, Go Hyun Jung stated, "The work itself has considerable charm. Once I got sucked into the interesting  story unfolding in each episode, I lost track of time." She added, "The detailed narrative woven by writer Lee Young Jong was immensely immersive, and I was curious about the synergy that would emerge when it's combined with the directorial skills of Byun Young Joo, who would translate it into such a sensational visual spectacle."

Go Hyun Jung further emphasized, "As an actress, I have always held the desire to be part of a good project, so I happily decided to take part in Queen Mantis without hesitation."

Go Hyun Jung also expressed high satisfaction with her collaboration with director Byun Young Joo. When asked about her experience working with her, she explained, "Director Byun Young Joo seems to achieve a perfect balance between strong leadership and her unique wit. Her seasoned expertise, drawn from years of experience, translated into precise direction, resulting in an exceptionally polished final product. I believe her charisma, which commands the entire place, even served as the spiritual anchor for the Queen Mantis team."

She then recalled, "At the end of shoots, her humorous talk would make us laugh. Receiving such positive energy from the director, in turn, motivated me to approach the filming with even more vigor."

Queen Mantis is set to premiere on September 5. The K-drama will be streaming on Netflix.
