Cha Tae Hyun and Uhm Ji Won roped in for new Netflix film
Actor Jung Jun Won, who recently came under fire over his attitude following his appearance on the popular variety show Hangout with Yoo, opened up about his deep reflections on his acting career.
On August 5, a video titled "Jung Jun Won's Story (feat. A Bona Fide Killer)" was released on the YouTube channel "YouTube Ha Ji Young".
In the video, Jung Jun Won began by saying, "The period leading up to the release of Resident Playbook was the hardest time of my life." "What we do is a profession that requires a lot of luck, and in the end, you have to be chosen. Until I was cast in this project, I even thought, 'Maybe I'm just not someone who's meant to do this. Maybe I just can't make it.'"
He continued, "I don't think I can easily tell others that if they don't give up on what they love, an opportunity will eventually come. That's not something that applies to everyone," adding, "I was just very lucky, miraculously so."
He added, "Still, after not giving up on what I love, I was eventually blessed with a period of time that felt like a gift. More than anything, I felt that, since I had been given this opportunity, I needed to have more confidence in myself and work even harder."
He also did not hide the pressure of taking on his first leading role in the new drama A Bona Fide Killer, candidly admitting, "This kind of role is a first for me, so it feels like I'm standing before judges, being evaluated for the first time. That's why I'm very worried."
On August 1, Jung Jun Won appeared alongside actress Kong Hyo Jin on MBC's variety show Hangout with Yoo to promote the network's new drama A Bona Fide Killer. Throughout the broadcast, he frequently hesitated when answering questions, appeared to rely on Kong Hyo Jin, and drew criticism for responding passively to segments such as the "One Sentence Challenge" and the acting challenge.
Following the broadcast, online criticism poured in over what many viewed as his insincere attitude. Some argued that, as an actor with 11 years of experience since his debut, his behavior could not simply be explained by a shy personality, while others defended him, sparking a heated debate online.
As the controversy intensified, fellow cast members, including Kong Hyo Jin and Ha Ha, came to Jung's defense, explaining that he had simply been extremely nervous during the recording.
Ha Ha was the first to come to his defense. In the social media comment section, he wrote, "He was so lovable, adorable, and fun on set," adding, "Hangout with Yoo is a very difficult show for someone's first variety appearance. He's not a very experienced entertainer, so I hope you'll look upon him kindly."
Kong Hyo Jin also shared clips from the broadcast on her social media, writing, "This husband actually threw up after the recording," adding, "I couldn't save him. I'm sorry," revealing that Jung Jun Won had been in an extremely nervous state.
Despite the support, the wave of criticism has shown no signs of dying down, with netizens continuing to flood social media with criticism.
