Ong Seong Wu reveals what inspired him to pursue acting
On April 18, the qualifying race for the GT3 category for the 2026 China GT Championship Shanghai round kicked off at the Shanghai International Circuit. Chinese actor Wang Yi Bo recorded a lap time of 2:03.357, placing 24th.
During the qualifying session, Wang Yibo drove a Mercedes-AMG GT3 Evo and set a personal best lap time of 2:03.357, ranking 24th overall and 10th in the AM (amateur drivers) category.
Although the time did not match his best performance from pre-season testing (2:02.332), it marks an improvement of nearly one second compared to his fastest lap in the 2025 race.
It is reported that Wang Yi Bo is the first figure from China's mainland entertainment industry to hold a Fédération Internationale de l'Automobile (FIA) Class D racing license. He officially obtained this license in September 2025, granting him the required eligibility to compete in regional international GT events such as China GT.
In 2024, at the Zhuhai round of the 2024 GTSC series in the GT3 category, Wang Yi Bo made his debut partnering with professional driver Fang Jun Yu. They finished as runners-up in the first round and took victory in the second, setting a record for the best debut by a celebrity driver and firmly establishing themselves in GT3 competition with two podium finishes.
In March 2025, during the race held in rainy conditions at Ningbo, Wang Yi Bo finished as runner-up. In April, at the Shanghai round, he claimed victory in the GT3 AM category. His race lap time reached 2:04.704, securing the win at the Shanghai International Circuit with a 2.3-second advantage over second place. In September of the same year, at the season finale of China GT at the Shanghai International Circuit, Wang placed fifth in qualifying with a time of 2:01.485 and ultimately secured third place in the GT3 AM category. In October, at the Shanghai 8 Hours endurance race, he finished as runner-up. Serving as the second driver, he completed a continuous 90-minute stint, climbing from ninth place to second overall.
